I. Foreword from the Editor

Knowledge of the land and it's people are vital for reconnaissance and intelligence efforts. Here we will discuss the various nations of the Eastern Kingdoms, and provide a brief overview of their histories and the customs & culture of the peoples of each. Though all human nations share much in common, knowing and understanding the differences in each is vital not only for diplomatic efforts, but for military cooperation and joint operations.

II. Origins

Humans can trace their origins to the Vrykul from Northrend. Vrykul offspring that were considered small and weak were traditionally left out in the elements to die, but some Vrykul broke with tradition and fled with their children - in time those children would become what we know as Humans today.

The various human kingdoms of the Eastern Kingdoms are the successors to the Empire of Arathor, the first human nation which was created after the various human tribes banded together against the Trolls which had become dominant the area in ages past.

III. Empire of Arathor

In order to confront the threat of the Amani (Forest) Trolls that inhabited the area now known as Lordaeron, the Arathi tribe of humans began to conquer and integrate the various human tribes into a single, powerful nation which became known as the Empire of Arathor. They built their capital Strom in what is now known as the Arathi Highlands.

At the time, the high elves of Quel'thalas were engaged in total war against the Amani trolls - and were losing. The elves sought the aid of Arathor, and the human king Thoradin accepted in exchange for the elves to each one hundred humans the ways of magic. With the combined might of the Arathi military, high elven magi and the newly trained human mages, the trolls were crushed in the great war which would later become known as the Troll Wars. The human general of the Troll Wars was Lordain - and his victory over the trolls was honored by naming a large swath of lands "Lordaeron".

This victory would see the humans and elves establish a long period of peace and alliance with one-another, but as the various major cities within the human nation became wealthy and powerful in their own right, and internal frictions lead to infighting, the various cities began to break off into their own kingdoms. Thus the Empire of Arathor came to an end, and the age of the Eastern Kingdoms began.
